Jolanda Richter - Video

Work of immense poetic beauty filled with meaning. Beautiful and sensual people hover in the air, amidst an anti-gravitational ballet, with semi-naked bodies, stripped from preconceptions in a liberating flight. Jolanda’s painting is an allegory, her figurative representation conveys a meaning that is much deeper than what is actually depicted. It’s like a figure of speech that targets our eyes, sustaining itself for longer and in a more fulfilling way than just a plain metaphor; it persistently summons our imagination, just like an analogy calls for rationalisation.

In a literal Renaissance, her figures seem to free themselves from the monuments, columns and Renaissance ceilings, from where they jump into a rejuvenating flight, leaving behind them a trace of freshness enhanced by their colourful vests. It’s as if the statues and the paintings were released in order to experience human life, leaving behind them a petrified past, imprisoned in an inhuman condition.

With great pleasure and joy, they are freeing themselves from an eternal sentence that is reflected in their faces and postures. An acrobatic flight which cherishes a new condition. On the other hand, some beings, still trapped in stone, show their worried frowns and mysterious countenances, frightened by their condition.

Like in a ballet, the intense colours of their clothes accentuate their movement in contrast with the monochromatic, inanimate and cold world that is made of stone. The colour gets impregnated with light and vitality, hence reflecting the energy and the feelings of her divas.

Her painting induces in us the willingness to taste freedom’s weightlessness, the impulse to cut our moorings, joining them in a libertine flight.

Jolanda Richter was born in Holland in 1971, grew up in Vienna, and began to study music and painting very early. At the age of seventeen she studied violoncello at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Following her true passion, she devoted her artistic work to painting over time. She studied at the 'University of Applied Arts Vienna', painting and graphic arts, and successfully completed her studies in 1999. With her unusual pictures, success and a broad echo of her work quickly became apparent. International awards and first prizes followed. Countless individual exhibitions and exhibitions involved her through Europe and the USA. She lives and works as a freelance artist in Lower Austria, Austria.

"She is one of the profiled figural painters in Austria. Their striking capacity lies in the convincing presence of the human figure in cleverly designed magically unreal dispositives of space and time and a very personal psychological coloring (by Univ. Prof. Uli Gansert).

"She talks about her childhood, mental scars, fears, but also about desires, dreams and hopes. The source point, however, is not the dreams of the day, but the admitting of the night-consciousness, that is, affective reflections without finiteness. One could describe their work as catathymic, imaginative autochthonous creations, which exist independently of the usual market trend (By Prof. Gotthard Fellerer).
