Omar Ortiz - Video

Omar relies on a seductive hyperrealism to portray women with all of their details - physical and psychological - duly underscored with remarkable minutiae. The poses he uses seem to be based on tortions that highlight their curves, and where weight and symmetry dislocate tagging along the point of equilibrium. It provokes a more unstable and dynamic aspect, providing an instantaneous photographic characteristic.

The models are hyper-sensual, overflowing with pleasure, they seem to be suspended, waiting to consumate at any given moment. On a fertile path to temptation, Ortiz expertly paints fabrics and lace using indiscreet transparencies and partial concealments under a seductive spell. The skin is silky and satiny, in which the surface is shown through progressive and indelible changes of value and colour. Successions of layers and glazes emphasise the characteristics of the skin providing an absolutely real and attractive effect, capable of stimulating our sense of touch.

As a back drop there is a "landscape" composed of famous paintings. It is something that goes beyond the pure ornamental element - it has the capacity to produce a great contrast, emphasising brush strokes, textures and colours, in opposition with the photographic figure that is exhaustively rendered. The light also strikes more brightly in the first model, and in a more contrasting way, it makes it completely stand out from the background. This combination of two painting styles acts as if they belonged to a musical sphere, in which the primordial melody has a background accompaniment that is distinct but yet complementary. They are artefacts that underline a contrast of style and technique, magnifying a surprising result. A scenario that does not merely involve the model: it gives wings to creativity.

Omar Ortiz was born in 1977 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico where he still lives. Since he was a boy he has been interested in drawing and illustration. He studied for a degree in Graphic Design, where he learned different techniques such as hand drawing, pastels, charcoal, water colors, acrylics and airbrushing.

When he finished college he decided to make a living from painting. In 2002 he attended his first oil paint classes with the artist Carmen Alarcón, who he considers his main teacher. Omar Ortiz currently works with oil painting because he considers it the noblest technique. His work is characterized as minimalistic - hyperrealism where the human body is predominate  whit texture-filled backgrounds and a magical use of fabric. “His paintings act like intimate pieces, trapped in themselves, outside of space and context” He has showed in Mexico, Spain, Netherlands and London.
