Severine Pineaux invites us to the fantastic world made of fairytales, flooded by beautiful and seductive women. They appear mounted on horseback where everything ends up metamorphosing into leaves and flowers. Her work breathes an atmosphere typical of the Celtic culture. Through it we have access to a world filled with magic. In Pineaux’s realm there is nothing impossible - it feeds our imagination, through a succession of images born in a distant time and land, which takes us to stories that were lost a long time ago.

Pineaux possesses exquisite drawing skills and knowledge in using the palette with magnificence, constantly dividing it between several colours and subtle nuances.

Metamorphosis is precisely one of Pineaux’s greatest assets. We find in it an exuberant paradox, where beings exchange roles between themselves; people become trees and trees become people. Dragons or mythological beings exchange their fur for a camouflage that looks like leaves and petals, in which there is a union between the plant and animal kingdom, and so a new species is reinvented, a fruit of such crossing. The flora conveys a new soul, new valences and a distinct personality. Her works have a rebirthing character, a fertile dimension where imagination gives room to creativity. This universe is quite unique and goes far beyond our earthly rationality.

Women exhibit a haughty or even a superior countenance, something typical of one who possesses supernatural abilities. They spread seductive magic, dressing and undressing themselves with vegetation, mirroring the environment and evidencing their fertility.

Pineaux paints poetic images, a universe created by fables that go way beyond reality and everyday consciousness. As it is captured by our senses, it activates a world of dreams and fantasy triggering the dreamer in us, a reminder of the collective imagination and passages of our infancy.

By Pedro Boaventura • Excerpt from Masters of Painting - Volume 1
Painter and illustrator living near the forest of Broceliande, Séverine Pineaux draws fantastic worlds, inspired by mythology and tales and closed to the celtic culture.

With watercolour or oil, she paints poetic visions where the nature is omnipresent. The theme of tree-men, plant-creatures and fabulous animals appears regularly in her art. Mechanical parts and steampunk gearings are mixed with leaves and branches to gather the past and the future. Her work on the enchanted cats brings a touch of sweet humor at this magic universe.

Her paintings tend to be a walk in a dream telling silent stories. Staged in her books, they become actresses and set of a theater made of paper. By mixing trees and human beings, plants and animals, Séverine Pineaux evokes the links and the unity of the world suggested by the ancients spiritualities as by the contemporary science.

Rewarded by numerous awards, Séverine Pineaux published “Ysambre”, “Gothic Faërie”, the “Secret Book of the Cats”, “ Smiles and Cats” and several other books, she exhibits regularly in France and in England, Belgium, USA and Russia.
My paintings tend to be a walk in a dream world, fed by mythology and legends. Staged in my books, they become actresses and set of a theater made of paper. By mixing trees and human beings, plants and animals, I tell the links and the unity of the world suggested by the ancients spiritualities as by the contemporary science.
