Bernard Dumaine (born August 20, 1953 in Angoulême, France) is a French artist. He quit his job at a printing house aged 20 and decided to switch to art as a career. He attended the Fine Arts School in Angoulême, France, where, despite being on the sculpture course, he spent most of his time drawing. After his graduation (Diplôme National des Beaux-Arts, mention for drawing), he then taught drawing in a technical college for a year. Later he came to work in advertising, creating "roughs" before joining animation studios doing layouts or backgrounds for cartoons for television, such as " Phantom 2040" or "My dad the rockstar " to name a few. He works in a variety of mediums, including oil paint, acrylics, graphite pencil, ink, video and digital painting.

He won twice (2003, 2004) the first prize of the digital art contest at MODA, New york city. His Surrealist vein involves a lot of chance, randomness and subsconciousness, for he can start a drawing without any plan and get the surprising outcome when finished.

He admires and is inspired by many old masters, including Bosch, Brueghel or Goya, The Surrealists (Yves Tanguy is a favourite); the French painters Jacques Damville and Gérard Titus-Carmel were early influences too. He is also doing collaborations under the process of the Exquisite Corpse, invented by the Surrealists, with artists internationally due to the ease in connections the internet can provide; most of these collaborations were realised in pencil, but this medium is now changing into painting. The series "Humble" which is featured here was done in graphite pencil, having as models "sculptures" he created with clay; they took a few minutes to be made, in a very aleatory way, when each drawing could long for an entire month to be achieved.

He has participated in many single and group exhibitions, both locally and internationally. He is currently working mostly in digital media, oil paints, and pencil.
