German artist Catrin Welz-Stein exhibits a fabulous collection of her digital art work, with mystical, dreamlike images brought together from a source of old pictures. Her style awakens the imagination and takes you on a journey inside a fairy tale. At first glance, the images look like an oil painting slowly built up layer by layer. Catrin does carefully layer each element in her work but she does that in a thoroughly modern way. She tears apart old photos, pictures and illustrations and then meticulously combines them in Photoshop to create her own unique image. Essentially, her work is collage, but instead of looking like a mash up of favorite pictures, her finished product is a smooth unified whole. Catrin studied graphic design in Germany and worked as a graphic designer for various agencies. In her spare time she experimented with mixed media, collages and paintings on canvas and finally entered the amazing world of digital art. There she also discovered her passion and love of surrealism. Since then, her drive to create has never let go.
